FAMILY BACKGROUND AND EARLY HISTORY

I was born on October 16th, 1993 in the Masaka Diocese of Uganda. When I was one year old, my father and mother died in a tragic traffic accident which left me, my older brother, and my older sister, orphaned.

We grew up with our grandmother who was an herbalist and peasant farmer. Under her custody, I managed to complete my primary education in a government-aided school. After completion of my primary level education, I had come to the end of the road concerning education as she could no longer afford to pay the school requirements.

By God’s grace, Sister Annet Nakato of the Daughters of Mary Bwanda, asked my grandmother to allow her to take me to an orphanage that would enable me to continue with my studies. All I would have to do is participate in cultivating and harvesting the land in order to help with the school payments. Later on, Sr. Annet managed to find a benefactor for me who paid my school fees at a good school and my performance was excellent.

MY JOURNEY TOWARDS THE PRIESTHOOD

I would say my desire for Priesthood started during my secondary school years when I was invited to live at the convent/orphanage. I was encouraged by seeing the life of prayer, devotion, dedication, and thanksgiving of the Sisters who adopted me and paid for a lot of my high school requirements.

When I told Sr. Annet about my calling to the Priesthood, she informed the person who they found to be my benefactor, but the person was not interested in me becoming a Capuchin priest. She stopped being my benefactor because she was not a Catholic. Sr. Annet decided to single-handedly support my tuition from then on as long as I engaged in small scale gardening to raise money for my textbooks.

It is from this humble background that I feel, for my life to be of satisfaction, I should give all of myself and all that I have. May God bless the Friar community for having accepted me as a student.

MY LIFE NOW AS A SEMINARIAN

Ever since I joined formation, I have had so many experiences from which I have learned lessons, experienced miracles, the power, greatness, and goodness of God, such that I have never regretted the decision that I made of becoming a devotee of our heavenly Father.

I am now 26 years old, in my 7th year of devotion, studying to become a Capuchin priest. In my experience as a seminarian, I have learned to live each day for the glory of God because of our Franciscan fraternal life, including manual work, prayer, and service to the community.

ASKING FOR HELP

In light of all that I’ve been through, I have the impetus to study hard and graduate in order to continue being of service to humanity as a Capuchin Priest, without ever forgetting the beauty of brotherhood as a friar minor. I thank God who is protecting and showing his Mercy to me, and humbly ask you to help me with my last years of studies. May God reward you abundantly in your endeavors.
