Ratifah’s father abandoned his family, leaving his wife to try to provide for her children alone. Ratifah's mother has a small piece of land where she grows food for her son and daughter, and what food they can spare she sells to buy clothing.

The Capuchin Brothers at the school have given Ratifah a scholarship for half of the tuition to attend school, but Ratifah’s poor mother still struggles to afford the other half of the fees. She very much wants her daughter to finish her education.

Ratifah is a clever and responsible girl who enjoys reading, and she hopes to become a doctor when she grows up! Sponsorship will take away the burden on Ratifah’s mother and give her the security to thrive in her studies.
