Maria lives with her parents who are both peasants and they farm their little piece of land to grow enough food to feed the family. Sadly, they find it impossible to support Maria and her four siblings in school but they would really love to see their children succeed and achieve their dreams.
Maria’s parents grew up in deep poverty; her mother never even got the chance to go to school and her father dropped out when he was in lower primary. Neither of them was ever able to be trained in any skill that could get them good jobs, which is why they both ended up peasant farmers.
Tragically, Maria lost one eye when she was playing with a friend who threw a stick at her and accidentally hit her in the eye. She is now used to it and is living positively with her disability. Maria’s dream is to become a teacher when she grows up, and she would be a good example to children of what you can achieve when you overcome life’s difficulties.
