Jovia’s father abandoned the family several years ago, leaving her mother to care for the children alone. She is uneducated and has no job training, but a kind neighbor has given her a small garden space where she grows enough to feed her children. She also weaves and sells baskets which earns her a little money to clothe her family.

During the covid lockdown, Jovia learned basket weaving from her mother as a way to increase their income. Jovia loves learning very much and has worked very hard with her mother to save money to be able to go to school, but sadly it hasn’t been enough.

Jovia needs a sponsor to fulfill her dreams of finishing her education. She is very driven and loves to be productive, which is why she decided to learn a skill from her mother to earn money. She hopes to become a nurse when she grows up.

About my country:
Uganda
Known as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
