Hilda’s father abandoned the family and takes no responsibility for them. Whenever they ask him for support, he tells them he has no money, so Hilda’s mother has to shoulder the burden of providing for the family. She is a peasant farmer and the food she grows isn’t even enough for the whole family.

Given their situation, Hilda’s mother cannot afford to keep her kids in school. Besides getting her a good education, sponsorship for Hilda would mean that she will have a steady source of food in the meals she can get at school, making things easier for her mother and helping them all to get enough to eat. 

Hilda hopes to become a nurse when she grows up if she is able to finish her education. She is a kind girl who enjoys learning reading in school and playing netball. Her brother, Raymond Kalema, is also available for sponsorship.
