Daisy Namatovu
Uganda
DOB: 10/26/2013
Female
Good Health
Favorite Subject: English
Favorite Pastime: Netball

When Daisy was still in the womb, her father abandoned the family. Daisy’s mother was unemployed at the time and still struggles to find steady work. She washed clothes and dug in other people’s gardens to try to earn enough for them to survive on. All this hard work was still not enough to support them and in addition she couldn’t afford her rent, so she, Daisy and her older brother Dan moved in with their grandmother.

Daisy’s mother then left her children behind and went on to start a new life on her own, but according to the grandmother things are not going well for her; she doesn’t have another job or the skills to get one.

Daisy’s grandmother is sickly but she still grows food for the family (including other grandchildren) to eat and finds it difficult to afford sending the children to school. Daisy will need sponsorship if she is going to have any chance of finishing her education, and she hopes to become a doctor when she grows up. She is a friendly girl who enjoys playing netball. Her older brother Dan Bukenya is also available for sponsorship.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
