Favorite Subject: Math
Favorite Pastime: Jump Rope

Christine’s mother dropped out of school because her family could not afford the tuition fees. She then had to begin a job as a housemaid, where she met a man who got her pregnant. She was 16. Afterwards the man disappeared and she was fired from her job, so she returned to her mother and gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Christine.

Christine’s father later came back to check on them a couple of times when Christine was about 9 months old and gave them some support. They lost communication with him after that and later found out that he died.

Christine lives with her mother, who has no job, and her grandmother, who is a peasant farmer. They survive off of the produce that her grandmother farms. Christine wants to become a nurse when she grows up if she is able to finish her education. Right now, however, she is not going to school and will most likely never be able to if she does not find a sponsor.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
