Alaphat and his mother have not heard from his father since he left them years ago. They live on a small piece of land and grow enough food to feed themselves, but they struggle to provide for other needs, especially school.
Alaphat is a friendly boy who would like to become an engineer when he grows up, if he is able to finish his education. He needs to be in school to ensure that his other needs are met.

Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
