Sandra is a kind girl of seventeen who especially loves caring for little children. Her father abandoned the family when she was about eight years old and she has not seen him since the day he left. Her family has no idea where he went or what he is doing.

Sandra lives with her three sisters and their mom who is a nanny at a village kindergarten. She is paid about $15 USD a month. In addition to this job she washes people's clothes by hand to earn enough to make ends meet for herself and her four children, but she finds it difficult to make enough money to send them to school.

The girls are all clever and active in class. Three of them have had sponsors with CARITAS but unfortunately Sandra lost her sponsor. She needs a new one if she is going to have any chance of finishing her education. Since it is her nature to be so caring for others, she hopes to become a doctor when she grows up.

To help Sandra go to boarding school, she will need $150/month from one sponsor or $75/month from two sponsors.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
