Rashida's father left her before she was born and tragically her mother passed away when she was 6 years old. After her mother's death, Rashida was homeless but luckily, an old lady in the village came to her rescue and sheltered her. At the age of 7, Rashida walked a very long distance to their former area of residence to live with a lady who was a friend to her late mother who is currently taking care of her as a foster mother.

Rashida's foster mother is a single mother of two children, unemployed, and unable to support Rashida to get an education. The whole family is struggling to get by and Rashida feels like a burden to her foster mother but has no other choice but to help around the house and pray that they all have enough to eat.

Rashida is a very intelligent girl who wishes to attend school but her situation overwhelms her at this tender age and makes her desperate. She prays to God to enable her to receive an education and become a nurse. Rashida requires a helping hand in her life for she treasures education especially since she is unable to go to school. Because of her living situation, a day school would not be enough - she needs to be going to boarding school to have her needs securely met.

About my country:
Known as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
