Esmeralda Cabral
Dominican Republic
DOB: 03/28/2012
Female
Excellent Health
Favorite Pastime: Play with Dolls

Esmeralda and her older sister Angelica have suffered abuse and mistreatment but thankfully have been removed to the Teresa Toda Orphanage where they will be safe. Their father cannot take care of them, and their mother is a street woman. They live with a couple who abuse the girls, and in addition, their neighborhood is full of drugs, extreme poverty, prostitution and vandalism – no place for young girls to grow up in. Their uncle, a priest, recognized the bad situation they were in and brought them to the Home.

Esmeralda’s father agrees that the girls will grow up in a healthy, safe environment if they are raised by the Sisters. Sponsorship will help them to get a good education which will give them a chance at a much better future. Esmeralda hopes to become a teacher when she grows up.

To help Esmeralda go to boarding school, she needs $90/month from one sponsor or $45/month from two sponsors.

About my community:
St. Teresa of Avila (San Juan)
In the diocese of San Juan, CARITAS provides our ministry in collaboration with the Carmelite Sisters. Because our children are being taught and brought up by these sisters, the patron saint whose intercession we ask for this community is St. Teresa of Avila, a famous Carmelite saint.
About my country:
Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic, on the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola, is frequently pummeled by hurricanes and tropical storms that can significantly impact the lives of poor people. Over 34% of Dominicans live below the poverty line, and in addition many Haitian children have fled here in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake.
