Tragically, both of Aaron’s parents died of HIV, one after the other. His mother died a few days after giving birth to him, so he was taken to a home for young children where he lived until the age of 6. He then went to live with his uncle, who has taken on the responsibility of caring for his siblings’ children. This man lost 6 of his siblings to HIV, and is now raising their children alone: 12 in all, plus 1 of his own!

Aaron’s uncle makes very little money and it’s a great struggle to support all of his nieces and nephews in school. Aaron will need a sponsorship if he is going to be able to finish his education. He is an active boy who hopes to become a doctor when he grows up.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
