Jonathan's life is hallmarked by tragedy, however he has always been able to depend on his mother. She remains a resilient figure in their household, tirelessly working to provide for their family's essential needs. She dedicates herself to cultivating a small plot of land, ensuring that they have enough food to sustain themselves. Any surplus from their harvest is sold to generate income which she can use toward Jonathan's education.

Jonathan's father passed away when he was very young due to an illness of uncertain origin. This unfortunate event left the family in a one-room dwelling, where mother and son share a single bedroom. Life for them has become increasingly difficult, marked by financial constraints that force them to frequently skip meals.

Despite these challenges, Jonathan holds tight to his aspirations of becoming a mechanic. However, the family's financial circumstances make consistent attendance at school a struggle. Jonathan's mother has reached out to CARITAS For Children with the hope that Jonathan can receive the financial help he needs to allow him to stay in school, ultimately leading him closer to his dream of becoming a skilled mechanic.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
