Marlon’s family was once stable, supported by the diligent work of his father, a nurse, who ensured that his children could attend boarding school and pursue their dreams. However, this stability was upended when his father lost his job due to an issue with his nursing certification, an unfortunate situation compounded by his inability to locate essential paperwork. This loss of income not only strained the family’s finances but also led to a personal crisis when Marlon's mother, disheartened by the sudden lack of financial security, chose to leave, abandoning Marlon and his two brothers with their father.

Now facing significant financial hardships, Marlon’s father is caught in a relentless struggle to provide for the basic needs of his family, let alone cover the cost of education for his sons. Despite his best efforts to provide, the challenges of single parenthood and unemployment have made it nearly impossible to secure the future he envisioned for his children. Marlon, who once aspired to become a doctor, finds his dream deferred, tethered to the hope of finding support that can bridge the gap between his current circumstances and his educational aspirations.

The family’s current predicament underscores a critical need for external support to ensure Marlon and his brothers can continue their education. With their father unable to afford tuition, Marlon's ambition of entering the medical field hangs in the balance, a dream that remains unattainable without the necessary financial assistance. This situation highlights the fragility of dreams in the face of economic and personal upheaval, and the vital role that support can play in helping families like Marlon’s navigate through their most challenging times.

About my community:
St. Francis of Assisi (Lugazi)
In the Lugazi Diocese, CARITAS finds some of the poorest families in all of Uganda. Because of St. Francis of Assisi's great love for the poor, he is the patron of this community. We pray for his intercession so that more children in this diocese have a chance to overcome the poverty that they have always known.
About my country:
Uganda
Known as the "Pearl of Africa," Uganda is located on the shores of Lake Victoria in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. Since emerging from decades of civil war and the devastation of AIDs, estimates indicate that 48% of Uganda's population is below the age of 15. Young children suffer disproportionately in the struggle to access healthcare, education, and clean water.
